Holly & Rex on the Great Loop

Ship’s Log 11022025

Cotton Wood bar to Olmsted Lock, Turner Landing anchorage

Kind of surreal today we finish our time on the Upper Mississippi River and turn onto the Ohio River. The Admiral has taken to calling the Mississippi the Miss-ugly and I might have to agree. Though I do understand the critical role it has played in the development of the US. Still a lot of muddy water and barge traffic. We haven’t seen a ton of wildlife, lots of bald eagles and white pelicans. A few ducks here and there. Not many otters or beavers are that kind of stuff.

Also, there are very few cities that they are on the banks of the River, I guess I was expecting more development along the river. But I guess its main purpose is to move barge traffic up and down.

The admiral a little cold this morning!

Made the Ohio River and anchored at the Olmstead lock and dam, the newest of the Army Corps of Engineers Locks. Through it tomorrow and on to Paducah KY.
