Grafton Harbor to Alton Marina

Got up this morning headed directly to the engine room, after I started the coffee,(priorities first) and began to clean up the oil that the generator had puke all over the area around it. A hour later I have it cleared up but still can’t find where it came from. Looked all over and all I could find was an air cleaner line disconnected. I headed for the marina office in search of a mechanic hoping they had one on staff. No such luck! I knew we couldn’t continue down river without a generator, but hoped the next marina we were scheduled to stop would have one. I called and luckily I got the harbor master who knew of a yard about 3 miles from us. He gave me the cell phone number of the owner and the owner agreed to take a look at it. He said if it was a major issue they could fix it in the spring. Not what I wanted to hear, but I knew there main goal was to get everything winterized.

Well when we arrived at the marina, Kurt the owner met us at the dock and came aboard to look at the generator. After a few minutes of looking it over he caught a drip coming below the oil filter and then we realized that when the mechanic did the service on it they didn’t tighten the filter other than hand tight. We put on a new filter and add oil and it was good as new, we hope. Thank goodness it was a minor issue, would have been nice to figure it out myself! Maybe that why I am not a boat mechanic!
